Takapuna vs. Papatoetoe – Onewa Domain

A match-turning Hendrik van Vuuren and Dan James partnership lifted Takapuna from 128/7 to a winning total after Papatoetoe suppressed the hosts’ top order. Earlier, Mike Sclanders (38) and Guy Harley looked to have steadied the Pirates’ ship, but Papatoetoe fought to make the most of their strong start. While wickets were shared around for the visitors, they came regularly before van Vuuren (94*) and Dan James (38) put together 91 for the eighth wicket. van Vuuren then dominated the final five overs finishing with 3 fours and 5 sixes.

Chasing 268, Papatoetoe’s top order also struggled. Josh Plummer (37) scored quickly before Harshal Vyas (38), Dilpreet Singh (31), Arminder Sohal (38) all showed glimpses of taking the Takapuna bowler’s on. Skipper Will O’Donnell had other ideas, however, ending several developing knocks. Ish Sohi’s aggressive 52 gave Papatoetoe hope late on, but O’Donnell pried the right-hander out with 37 runs still to get. O’Donnell finished with figures of 5-44, while Sclanders (2-29) and Ryan Quinn helped maintain pressure through the middle overs.

Takapuna 267/8 (H van Vuuren 94*, M Sclanders 38, D James 38) defeated Papatoetoe 241 (I Sohi 52, A Sohal 38, H Vyas 38, J Plummer 37, D Singh 31, W O’Donnell 5-44) by 26 runs.

Papatoetoe vs. Parnell – Lloyd Elsmore Park

Parnell extended their winning run in the Pearl Dawson Trophy to four matches after a series of starts by Olivia Lobb, Shriya Naidu, Yaz Kareem and Stephanie Carr gave the Plums a score to defend. For Papatoetoe, Cordelia Gallagher’s pair of late wickets helped keep Parnell to 105/8.

Papatoetoe’s reply never got off the ground with Samantha Brake-Howard (3-5) and Gemma Lord (2-7) leading the way with the ball. All six bowlers used by skipper Carr took at least one wicket as Papatoetoe were bowled out for 66.

Parnell 105/8 defeated Papatoetoe 66 (S Brake-Howard 3-5) by 39 runs.

Takapuna vs. Papatoetoe – Lloyd Elsmore Park

In the lowest-scoring match of the day, Jane Barnett came up with something special to help Takapuna to a perfect day. Earlier, Takapuna struggled through to 88/6 after Taofi Lafai struck twice early on. Izzy Gaze (21) and Lauren Heaps (20) were the top-scorers for Takapuna as Papatoetoe’s bowlers fronted up.

It was all Heaps (3-8) during the powerplay. The left-arm spinner struck three crucial blows before Barnett ran away with the match. Barnett finished with the extraordinary figures of 5-0 from 1.5 overs, while Olivia Anderson picked up 2-0 from her solitary over. In the end, it was a comfortable victory for Takapuna and one that keeps the Ponies in the hunt for a home final.

Takapuna 88/6 defeated Papatoetoe 22 (J Barnett 5/0, L Heaps 3/8) by 66 runs.
