Premier Men

Richard Jones Cup

Papatoetoe 295 (L Istead 99, J Plummer 51, N Aujla 40, Stephen Money 31, S Mehta 3-60) defeated Kumeu 239 (S Irfan 40, S Mehta 40, D Laban-Jeffries 35*, J Patel 34, L Istead 3-33, J Plummer 3-39) by 56 runs.

Papatoetoe made the trip out west to Kumeu and came away with a third Richard Jones Cup win at Huapai Domain. A series of partnerships helped Papatoetoe build a daunting total with top-order contributions by Josh Plummer (51), Stephen Money (31) and Logan Clark (27) laying the groundwork for what was to come. Sahil Metha (3-60) kept Kumeu in the contest for some time before Luke Istead (99) and Navdeep Aujla (40) lifted Papatoetoe to 295 all out in the 47th over.

Istead (3-33) may have narrowly missed out on his century, but he more than made up for it by taking the first three Kumeu wickets. The hosts continued to slide and, at 89/7, Papatoetoe would have had designs on an early finish. Though the result was never in doubt for Papatoetoe, Kumeu fought through to the 47th over with Syed Irfan (40), Mehta (40), Dion Laban-Jeffries (35*) and Jay Patel all frustrating the visitors.

Back to Back T20 Wins for the Prem Men take them through to the SEMI-FINALS this Sunday!

T20 Championship | CentralEast Pool | Round Six

Eden Roskill 143/7 lost to Papatoetoe 148/7 (L Istead 42, B Rowland 30) by three wickets.

Papatoetoe made the most of their morning fixture, leaving themselves in position to vie for a place in the semifinals following a win against Eden Roskill. It was runs-by-committee for Roskill, as each of their nine batsmen managed double figure scores. Roskill steadily built a total of 143/7, leaving Papatoetoe with a bit of work to do. Barrington Rowland (30) and Luke Istead’s (42) opening stand proved to be the catalyst for their side’s chase, and their hard work meant the rest of the order could see it through, with Papatoetoe securing a three-wicket victory.

CentralEast Pool | Round Seven

Grafton 105 lost to Papatoetoe 106/9 (L Yugaraja 32) by one wicket.

Victoria Park played host to an absolute thriller between Grafton and Papatoetoe in the afternoon. The home side begun the game with the bat, and were made to work for every run. Dhaman Bhatti, who has been Papatoetoe’s best bowler through the round-robin, and Sunit Birla picked up wickets at either end of the order. Captain and keeper Stephen Money showcased his craft, claiming three stumpings. Grafton managed 105, teasing the possibility of a tight finish. Jack Dymond claimed an LBW from the first ball of the second innings, and struck again in his next over leaving Papatoetoe at 19/2. From there, Arnie Yugara (32) and Barrington Rowland got things back on track with a revitalising 50-run stand. Things changed drastically once again after Rowland was dismissed in the 12 over and wickets began to fall. The scores were level heading into the final over, and a late runout had Papatoetoe at 105-9 with two balls remaining. Birla was the man of the hour, and his run from the last ball of the game gave Papatoetoe a win that would clinch their place in the semifinals.

Pearl Dawson T20 Championship

Round One

Papatoetoe 106/5 lost to Auckland University 107/2 (H Huddleston 30) by eight wickets – match reduced to 15 overs.

Auckland University kicked off their Pearl Dawson Trophy defence with a comprehensive victory in a 15-over match against Papatoetoe. Batting first, Papatoetoe were given a reasonable start by Tetiare Mataora and Cordelia Gallagher before University tightened the screws. In reply, Holly Huddleston (30) and Jesse Prasad (26) both spent time at the crease, helping their side to an eight-wicket win.

Round Two

Takapuna 170/2 (L Down 106*, R McNeill 33) defeated Papatoetoe 46 by 124 runs.

Lauren Down starred for Takapuna, scoring the competition’s first hundred for 2020/21, in a resounding win over Papatoetoe. Down hit 9 fours on her way to an unbeaten 106 off 64 and shared an opening stand of 122 with Roz McNeill (33). With 170/2 on the board, Takapuna then made the most of the scoreboard pressure to bowl Papatoetoe out for 46. McNeill added two wickets to her knock, while Arlene Kelly and Clare Mains both took two wickets as well.
