Premier Men

Hedley Howarth Trophy | Round Five

Papatoetoe 321/8 (B Rowland 173*, S Singh 74, D Gunawardene 3-72) drew with Grafton 257/8 (K Ruffell 64, A Edwards 61, N Fletcher 32, N Aujla 4-51)

Grafton kept their survival hopes alive after a gritty batting effort at home against Papatoetoe. The hosts stood up to a committed Papatoetoe attack, batting through the entirety of Day Two to salvage a draw.

The draw, however, may feel like something of a consolation, with Kyle Ruffell (64) and Alex Edwards (61) having put on 109 for the first wicket. The openers patient fifties set Grafton on their way, but the incoming batsmen were unable to capitalise.

Papatoetoe’s Navdeep Aujla (4-51) provided the biggest threat, with the off-spinner striking regularly through the afternoon. Grafton were determined throughout, with only one dismissed batsman facing less than 20 deliveries. With a first-innings lead out of reach, Nathan Fletcher (32) and Jack Duffy (27*) grafted to take crucial time out of the game. Their respective knocks keep Grafton afloat and in touching distance of Papatoetoe with two scheduled rounds remaining.

Tough day in the dirt for the Premier Women against the Howick Pakuranga Llamas!

Premier Women

Prichard Cup | Round Eight

Howick Pakuranga 281/8 (S Bowden 83, H Topp 52, A Parr 39) defeated Papatoetoe 142 (T Mataora 43, L Ross 6-54, A Parr 3-17) by 139 runs.

Howick Pakuranga marked the return of the Prichard Cup by putting on the highest total of the day, built on fifties by Skye Bowden and Holly Topp, to keep their slim Final hopes intact.

A significant top-order showing saw Howick Pakuranga post 281/8 on the back of a 146-run stand between Bowden and Topp for the second wicket. Bowden proved the driving force behind the Llamas’ batting effort, hitting 7 fours on her way to 83 off 74 balls. Topp was the patient one of the partnership, finishing with 52 off 104 deliveries.

Papatoetoe’s reply got off to an excellent start with Tetiare Mataora (43) and Regina Lilii taking the score out to 73/0 from 15 overs. Lauren Ross (6-45) then shone for Howick Pakuranga, taking the first of her six wickets, quickly extinguishing Papatoetoe’s hopes of pulling off something special. For Howick Pakuranga, Amberly Parr added figures of 3-17 to her quickfire 39 to complete a fine all-round performance.
