Game 1 vs Grafton
Grafton, coming off their tie with Ellerslie, could have been forgiven for feeling slightly punch-drunk as they went out to bat against Papatoetoe. This only got worse, when after less than three overs their two openers were back in the sheds.
Alex Edwards, coming in at first drop, saw out five balls without scoring, then went about making up for that in fours and sixes. He hit 86* from 57 balls to help propel Grafton to their final total of 145/5.
Papatoetoe’s batsmen had no trouble maintaining the scoring rate. Where their bowlers had been able to peg back Grafton at crucial points, Josh Plummer hit a six from the second ball. Navdeep Aujla and Jake Dunford powered the Papatoetoe innings to an eight wicket win in 18.2 overs.
Grafton 145/5 (A Edwards 86*; J Plummer 2-29, S Birla 1-9) lost to Papatoetoe 146/2 (N Aujla 63* J Dunford 38; D Marsh 1-21) by eight wickets.
Game 2 vs Eden Roskill
Nav Aujla top-scored yet again with an unbeaten 61 off 59 balls and was well-supported by skipper, Logan Clark (28) to set a modest total 121 off their 20 overs. Despite a couple of starts from Eden Roskill's top and middle-order batsmen, no-one was able to kick on leaving Eden Roskill two runs short at the end of their 20 overs. Aujla showing his class with the ball also taking three wickets for a measly 16 runs off his four overs.
Papatoetoe 121/7 (N Aujla 61*, L Clark 28) defeated Eden Roskill 119/8 (N Aujla 3-16)
