Howick Pakuranga came out on top in the Southern derby with a comprehensive win over Papatoetoe. It was Regina Lilii who did the most damage of the Papatoetoe bowlers, finishing with brilliant figures of 4-14 from her four overs.
Chasing 127, Lilii (32) was again going to be key. For Howick Pakuranga, however, all five bowlers combined perfectly to restrict Papatoetoe to 74/6; Marama Downes (3-10) starred, while Molly Penfold, Georgina Harris and Amberly Parr all picked up a wicket and conceded 16 or less from their four overs.
Pearl Dawson Trophy | Round Four
Papatoetoe 133/7 (R Lilii 80*, L Battin 3-28) defeated Cornwall 109/8 by 24 runs.
Papatoetoe are off the mark in season 2020/21 with an excellent win over Cornwall. Regina Lilii hit the highest individual score of the day, finishing with an unbeaten 80 off 63 balls. The opener’s knock was Papatoetoe’s only one to pass double-figures, but it was more than enough to get Papatoetoe to a winning total of 133/7. For Cornwall, Lydia Battin struck thrice through the middle to put the pressure back on Lilii.
The chase started brightly before a string of wickets saw Cornwall slip to 40/4 at the end of the powerplay. Carol Agafili (2-20) and Caitlin Hakeagatoa (2-23) shared the limelight for Papatoetoe, while Tariel Lamb (26) tried to lead a Cornwall rebuild. The solid work up-front proved just the ticket to seal Papatoetoe’s first win of the season, by 24 runs.
