ACA Report Papatoetoe Recreation Ground played venue to a far closer contest after the home side won the toss and elected to bat first. While Harjot Johal kicked off the wicket-taking for Eden Roskill in the second over, Papatoetoe were able to keep their run-rate above five throughout the powerplay. At the halfway mark, Papatoetoe were 119/2. Jake Dunford and Logan Clark both scored patient half-centuries allowing Papatoetoe to keep wickets in hand for a late-innings assault. Jeet Kumar’s three wickets made it tough to truly launch, but a Dilpreet Singh cameo and three late Ben Westerlund boundaries ensured Papatoetoe had 261/8 to defend. Eden Roskill were guided by yet another Barrington Rowland special and a fighting Oyishik Chakraborty inning. Mick Hosking and Lakshay Bhardway kept Papatoetoe in the hunt as Eden Roskill’s top seven all hit boundaries in a disciplined accumulative effort. The heat came on with the finish line in sight when Papatoetoe took 4-5 in eleven deliveries but with two runs to get, Harjot Johal cleared the rope to record a memorable one-wicket triumph. Papatoetoe 261/8 (J Dunford 73, L Clark 50; J Kumar 3-51, H Johal 2-41) lost to Eden Roskill 266/9 (B Rowland 79, O Chakraborty 48; L Bhardway 4-44, M Hosking 2-28) by one wicket. |

Tough day out for the Premier Women with two T20 losses at Cornwall Park |

Match 1 vs Howick
After winning the toss and electing to bowl first, Papatoetoe's Lily Mulivai made first use of a green Cornwall number three, as she struck early dismissing both Howick openers in only the third over. However, Howick's middle order managed to salvage the innings with 40 and 30-run partnerships to set Papatoetoe a target of 147. Mulivai was the pick of the bowlers finishing up with 4-22 off her four overs with Lagi Telea, Caitlin Hakeagatoa, and Toni Baldwin all chipping in with one wicket each.
Unfortunately, it was a nightmare start to Papatoetoe's batting innings as Howick quick, Josie Penfold blitzed through the top order taking three wickets in four balls in the first over, and only narrowly missing out on a hattrick. With the team under pressure at 1-3, Telea was not phased by the situation belting a six in only her sixth ball faced and eventually producing her maiden half-century for the club. Unfortunately, she had very little support from the rest of the batting order with wickets falling around her and was eventually left stranded in the 16th over on an unbeaten 75 off only 50 balls including 11 fours and 3 sixes, with the team all out on 104.
Howick Pakuranga 146/7 (L Western 43, A Parr 27; L Mulivai 4-22) defeated Papatoetoe 104 (L Telea 75*; J Penfold 5-14, A Parr 2-15) by 42 runs.
Match 2 vs Cornwall
The luck of the draw saw Papatoetoe playing Cornwall in the afternoon and therefore, being treated to a very rare opportunity to play on Cornwall's number one. The home side won the toss and threw Papatoetoe in to bat hoping to produce some early wickets. Unfortunately for Papatoetoe, that is exactly what happened with the top four all out within the powerplay and the team on 23-4. Lagi Telea, again unphased by the situation, managed to carry on from the previous match producing the team's highest score with an unbeaten 38 off 48 balls to see the team to 91/6 off their 20 overs.
Papatoetoe were unable to take early wickets as Cornwall got off to a great start with an opening stand of 49 before Feala Vaelua broke the partnership in the ninth over dismissing Annie Ewart (20). However, no further wickets fell as Cornwall's Gemma Adams and Emma Fulbrook saw the team through to 92 in the 15th over to win by 9 wickets.
The Premier Women have another T20 double-header this Saturday at Te Atatu Park against Parnell and Waitak/Auckland University and will look to hopefully turn these results around.
Papatoetoe 91/6 (L Telea 38*, K Nonu Lui 12; K Patel 2-25, F Jonas 1-6) lost to Cornwall 92/1 (G Adams40*, E Fulbrook 29*; F Vaelua 1-12) by nine wickets. |
