Premier Men rolled by Howick Pakuranga with Munro putting on a show of boundaries!

ACA Report

Papatoetoe vs. Howick Pakuranga

Colin Munro donned the maroon for the first time this summer and was in fine form. After moist run-ups reduced the match to 43 overs at Papatoetoe Recreation, Papatoetoe won the toss and put Howick Pakuranga into bat. The Aces left-hander scored his first hundred for Howick Pakuranga bludgeoning 111 off 83 balls – including 9 fours and 7 sixes.

Papatoetoe kept Munro’s top-order partners quiet before Brian Barnard hit 55. Ben Westerlund triggered a middle-order collapse taking 4-56, however, a late Mitch McClenaghan blitz ensured Howick Pakuranga took the momentum into the second innings.

In pursuit of 252, Papatoetoe never found their feet and were bowled out for 65 inside 24 overs. Off-spinner Rowan Naude benefitted from runs on the board ensuring a 186-run win for Howick Pakuranga taking their Jeff Crowe Cup record to 4-0.

Howick Pakuranga 251/8 (C. Munro 111, B. Barnard 55, M. McClenaghan 37*, B. Westerlund 4-56) defeated Papatoetoe 65 (R. Naude 4-21)

Premier Men Scorecard
Two from two not to be as Howick Pakuranga take the T20 as well over the Premier Men

ACA Report

Papatoetoe hosted traditional rivals Howick Pakuranga in round two of the Premier Men’s T20 Championship. The match-up always draws spectators, and the hovering clouds didn’t detract from the atmosphere around the game.

Howick Pakuranga won the toss and sent themselves in to bat, making the most of the light. They got off to a flier, Ben Barnard hitting four fours in one over off Navdeep Aujla. Along with Cameron Neale, Howick Pakuranga was propelled to 58 off 7 when Barnard was caught.

It didn’t slow them down much, however, until Neale went at the end of the 10th over. Papatoetoe’s spinners then managed to pull the game back from the Alpacas. Bill Walsh and David Winn found the scoring tougher going, and Aujla got some revenge when he was on a hattrick in the last over of his spell. Howick Pakuranga finished 20 overs at 146/5.

It was a score which was always going to be tough to reach for Papatoetoe, and tougher still when they had two of the Aces fast bowlers coming in from both ends. Danru Ferns and Jamie Brown both got wickets in their first overs, and had Papatoetoe at 17/4 three overs later.

Dilpreet Singh and Damanpreet Bhatti had the only real partnership of the Papatoetoe innings. They put on 49 runs as a pair before Rowan Naude removed them both in the 15th over. At 86/8 the game was well out of reach at that point, and for Papatoetoe it became about not letting Howick Pakuranga bowl them out. They managed it, and made it to 112/9, leaving Howick Pakuranaga the victors by 34 runs.
