There is still hope for Hedley Howarth glory for the Premier Men going into Day Two!

ACA Match Summary

Second-placed Papatoetoe are still holding onto hope of Hedley Howarth glory with a well-advanced game against University at Colin Maiden Park.

15 wickets fell in the day with University’s Jeet Patel claiming an impressive eight-wicket haul.

Jeet Patel opened the bowling with Caleb Jasmat and despite the Papatoetoe top order all getting starts, Patel ensured none of them went on to score big.

Ollie Reynolds-Pringle (32) and Logan Clark (28) both batted for over 100 balls as the Patel’s – Jeet and Ketan settled in for long spells at the bowling crease.

The Papatoetoe innings came to an end in the 73rd over, number seven Stuart Money top scoring with 35 but the start was Jeet Patel with figures of 8-62, a sensational effort.

182 seemed to be a middling total for Pap and it got a whole lot better with an early strike from Reynolds-Pringle.

There was an unfortunate moment for Uni when number three Jack Windler was struck in the head from a Reynolds-Pringle short ball and left the field retired-hurt.

From there the Papatoetoe spin twins of Bhupinder Singh and Nav Aujla took over late in the day and put their side right back in the contest.

Both claimed two wickets a piece to reduce Uni to 93/5, Vijay Anand (44) top scoring so far at the top.

Wajihuddin Muhammad (18*) and Beau Dench (2*) will resume next week for the visitors with the possibility of Windler returning to the crease after his head knock.

Papatoetoe 182 (S Money 30, O Reynolds-Pringle 32; J Patel 8-62) playing Auckland University 93/5 (V Anand 44)

Premier Women secure victory over Howick Pakuranga
Premier Women - Photo Credit: HPCC
It was a big game for the Premier Women last weekend with the hopes of a finals berth still alive where they were hosted by Howick Pakuranga at Lloyd Elsmore's number four pitch. Pap won the toss and sent the hosts in to bat to make first use of a very green wicket. Despite a wayward start from Pap's opening pace attack, Feala Vaelua (3-33), and Lily Mulivai (1-24) did well to find their rhythm again to break the opening partnership and rip through the top order with four wickets falling in the space of three overs. Mansimran Kaur (15) and Amberly Parr (15) started the rebuilding process for their side with a patient 55-run partnership (off 20 overs) before Malia Tato, the pick of the bowlers with her consistent line and length creating plenty of chances dismissed both batsmen and ended up with 2-17 off her 10 overs. The hosts battled through to the 49th over before bundling out for 138 with Regina Lilii also chipping in with three wickets.

With 139 runs the target, a slow green wicket did not make it easy for Pap's opening pair with Via Meritiana Andrew (3) the first wicket to fall in the seventh over trapped LBW by Howick's Josie Penfold. Lilii joined Tess Hickson at the crease where they put on 22 runs before yet another calling mishap coming back for two resulted in Hickson run out and the team on 37-2. Vaelua contributed a quick-fire 12 off 9 balls before she was dismissed bowled by Parr. Mulivai (37*) and Lilii (55*) went about their business putting on a patient 88-run partnership off 20 overs to see their team across the line in the 35th over.

Unfortunately, the Premier Women were also relying on Waitakere/Auckland University to produce a win over Takapuna to get through to the final but no such luck. So the Premier Women now look towards a third-place play-off against Cornwall this weekend at Cornwall.

Howick Pakuranga 138/10 48.3 ov (F Vaelua 3-33, R Lilii 3-17, M Tato 2-17)
Papatoetoe 142/3 35.0 ov (R Lilii 50*, L Mulivai 37*, T Hickson 15)
